Backing Up The THERAPIST
Alternate Backup and Restore
The THERAPIST for DOS Version 3.x
For the best and safest backup always use the Alternate Backup and Restore
located under Maintenance > External Modules, not the
Backup and Restore located under Maintenance > Backup and
Restore. Key advantages of the Alternate Backup procedure over the one
on the Maintenance menu are:
- The Alternate Backup can be used to Import your data to the Windows
versions of The THERAPIST.
- The Alternate Backup uses fewer disks.
- The Alternate Backup is much faster.
If the Alternate Backup and Restore options are not already in Maintenance > External Modules
menu, you may need to insert them. To do this, follow these steps:
- Select Maintenance > External Modules.
- Press insert to add a new module.
- For the description, type Alternate Backup and PBACKUP as the command
line.
- Press Enter again to complete the screen.
- Press insert again to add the alternate restore.
- Type Alternate Restore as the description and PRESTORE as the command
line.
- Press Enter again to complete the screen.
If you are not able to create these options or if they don't do anything,
you may need to download the files listed below. These files must be in
The THERAPIST for DOS program folder, usually c:\THERAPY3. After downloading
these files to your computer please follow the steps listed above to enable
these options within your copy of The THERAPIST for DOS.
The Alternate backup and restore items on your External Modules
menu call MS-DOS batch files (PBackup.bat and PRestore.bat respectively).
These batch files make use of PKZip® to compress your data files and
store them on one or more floppy disks. PKZip is a software program from
PKWare web site. The download is a self-extracting compressed file. You
will need to run it and place at least PKZip.exe and PKUnzip.exe in The
THERAPIST for DOS program folder.
SECURITY NOTE: Because
all three download files are executable, your browser may alert you that
they could contain viruses. These files have been checked and do not contain
viruses, worms, or other malicious programs. They are safe to download.

Download Prestore
Download PKZip for DOS
Remember anything you backup using Alternate Backup will have to restored
using Alternate Restore, anything you backup with the regular backup will
need to be restored using the regular restore.
The THERAPIST for DOS Version 4.0
In version 4.0, the standard backup and restore have been replaced with
the PKZip based Alternate Backup so there is nothing special you need
to do. Just use the Backup and Restore from the Maintenance menu. |
