Backup Passwords
Generally, your best security is guarding the physical access to backup
disks. Because of this and because of the negative ramifications to changing
or losing a backup password, we do not recommend using them.
That said, using passwords to encrypt your backups can be a useful security
feature available in The THERAPIST. Please note the following
warnings:
 |
|
| WARNING: |
If you use a backup password, you cannot restore your data without
it. If you forget the password the backup disks might as well be used
as coasters. Beaver Creek Software has no way to break the encryption
should you or your staff forget the password. |
 |
|
| WARNING: |
If you use backups to move data between computers, including the
transfer of data from an old computer to a new computer, you must
be sure that the backup password is the same on both computers. |
 |
|
| WARNING: |
If you change your backup password, you will not be able to restore
backups made with another password or with no password. |
If you are confortable using backup passwords after these warnings follow
these steps to setup backp passwords:
- From the Setup menu, select Preferences > Backup Options.
- Enter your backup password.
- Click on Ok to save your settings.
